‘Reading ‘A’
‘Reading ‘A’‘ is a six hour live artwork recording six home visits to a woman ill with dementia. The work critically examines the purpose and practice of therapeutic activities for people with dementia; ethical issues involved in creative research; and the representation of people with dementia in artworks. The work also frames existential problems, questioning whether, even with the best will, care, communication and empathy are always possible.
This live work is by Becky Shaw and involves a team of readers who all work or study in care-related professions: Claire Lee, Kate Moore, Ellen Kirby, Claire Mayne and Laura Cox. The work is a ‘drop in and out’ piece and delegates and visitors are cordially invited to come in and view the work at any time.
Date and time: Wednesday 15th July
Location: Cantor Building (foyer next to SIA Gallery), 153 Arundel Street, Sheffield S1 2NU
