After gaining a 1st in Physics from the University of Leeds in 1985, I subsequently received a PhD from Aston University. I lectured in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield until 2006 and I now head the Sports Engineering Research Group within the Centre for Sport and Exercise Science.
The group carries out research and consultancy for the sports sector, creating both equipment and image based coaching tools to measure and feedback performance in sport. We have worked with large organisations such as Adidas and Prince, and with government agencies such as UK Sport.
I founded the International Sports Engineering Association in 1998 and I was also the founding editor of the journal Sports Engineering and have delivered over 60 Keynote and invited lectures around the world.
