I graduated from Cambridge University, having specialised in theoretical physics before obtaining a PhD from the University of Sheffield for work on the theory of a metal to insulator transition.
After a period in industry and teaching, I joined Sheffield Hallam University in 1982, where my interests focused principally on computational physics.
Recent work has concentrated on molecular and mesoscale modelling of complex fluids and I have led the development of mesoscopic methods for modelling flow of pneumatic liquid crystals with both fixed and variable order parameter.
I have also worked on the modelling of plasma coating and crack propagation.
