The Yorkshire-Safe team is a unique partnership between Sheffield Hallam University, SOCA (Serious and Organised Crime Agency), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), West Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Police, Humberside Police, People United Against Crime (PUAC) and Yorkshire Forward. The Yorkshire-Safe team established e-Safe in response to discovering that most of the literature concerning data safety and security was specifically targeted towards information technology professionals, assuming a high level of technical knowledge and understanding of computer terminology. Clear explanations of the most basic facts, written in non technical language, were difficult to locate for businesses and traders with no ready access to technical expertise. As a direct result of their efforts, e-Safe now provides a single website covering basic computer data security and safety needs providing a valuable service to support those businesses trading online.
