Joint Open Source Intelligence Conference

Athena, EmerGent and ePOOLICE jointly hosted the first Open Source Intelligence Conference. The conference took place on the 8th July, 2015, at the Italian National Fire Corps in Rome, Italy. Please click on the link below for the original news article, hosted on the Athena project’s website.

The event was designed as a convergence of a number of EU (FP7, Horizon 2020 and DG-Home Affairs) funded security projects, focused on the application of open-source intelligence (OSINT) in order to enhance the ability and knowledge of stakeholders in appreciating its utility across a number of security focused disciplines such as crisis management and the detection of organised crime threats.


Port Technology International Publishes Article on the AUGGMED Project

“The platform will also offer tools to allow the trainers to set learning objectives for individual trainees and/or teams of trainees (from a single or multiple organisations), define scenarios, monitor the progress of the training session, alter scenario parameters during the training session, provide real time feedback and assess the trainee’s performance.As well as bespoke scenarios which can be automatically generated to suit the needs of the individual, the platform will be easily accessible whereby a trainee can initiate a training session at a time convenient to them. Training can take place as often as required and trainers will be able to initiate a remote, unplanned session to test the readiness levels of individual members of staff.”


AUGGMED: Research in using Immersive Virtual Reality to Train Police Forces

“AUGGMED project (AUtomated serious Game scenario Generator for MixED reality training), part of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program , will develop a multimodal virtual reality and mixed reality platform that can be used anywhere via a variety of devices and technologies from smartphones and tablets to high-end PCs with multiple monitors and head mounted displays.”

Preventing Terrorism and Violent Extremism by Andrew Staniforth

Andrew Staniforth, Detective Inspector and Senior Research Fellow at CENTRIC, is delighted to announce the 2014 publication of a new counter-terrorism book for police and partners. As part of the successful Blackstone’s Practical Policing series of Oxford University Press, the new title: Preventing Terrorism and Violent Extremism, illustrates key operational guidance on responding to terrorist emergencies, focusing upon the important role of Neighbourhood Policing and community intelligence to tackle terrorism and violent extremism. Supported by Lord Carlile of Berriew CBE QC, Sir David Omand GCB and John Parkinson OBE, the new volume shall be a valuable reference and resource for all police professionals.
