Servicing Utopia

About Servicing Utopia

Servicing Utopia is a digital toolkit which aims to support planners, architects and designers to critically and creatively rethink notions of access in relation to the toilet design process.

The toolkit is based on research findings from Around the Toilet, which worked with trans, queer and disabled people from April 2015 to December 2015 to ask what it means to access a safe and comfortable toilet space.

Servicing Utopia is a collaborative research project led by Dr Lisa Procter (Manchester Metropolitan University), Dr Jen Slater (Sheffield Hallam University) and Dr Emily Cumming (University of Leeds).

Thank you to our project collaborators for their input into the development of the Servicing Utopia toolkit: Sheffield Civic Trust; Doncaster Civic Trust; Bond Bryan Architects; Integreat.
