Allied Health Professions Workforce Research Partnership

Supporting a sustainable and effective Allied Health Professions workforce in rural and coastal regions and in deprived urban areas

Our stakeholder groups

Our work is guided by two dedicated stakeholder groups: the Expert Reference Group (ERG) and the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Group (PPIE). The ERG brings together senior NHS managers, members of Integrated Care Boards, and professionals from across the AHP workforce, offering strategic insight and practical expertise. The PPIE group ensures that the voices and experiences of patients, carers, and the wider public are central to the project. Together, these groups ensure that AHP WRaP remains grounded, relevant, and shaped by those with both professional expertise and lived experience.

Expert Reference Group

The ERG is a group of 20 senior Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and allies with expertise and strategic influence at national, regional and Trust level for workforce policy, planning, delivery and improvement. Membership is drawn from all AHPs, with geographical representation across the three regional hubs i.e. East of England, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, as well as those from further afield. The group seeks to represent a range of professional groups, services and sectors and may continuously extend and contract over the five-year course of the research programme.

The ERG is a sub-group of the programme board, with a membership that serves to validate, challenge and co-produce research outputs generated by the WRaP research work packages. Its overall purpose is to enable high-quality research that translates into evidence-based decision-making for service improvements and workforce sustainability. The ERG meets three times and year, typically online.  One meeting per year is held in person. The ERG’s first in-person meeting is planned for October 2026.
