About Us

Welcome to the Yorkshire Obesity Research Alliance (YORA). Established in 2020, we are a community of academics, regional and local government policy makers and practitioners, clinicians, key stakeholders and members of the general public with an interest in obesity research within the Yorkshire & Humber area.

Funded by the NIHR Yorkshire & Humber Clinical Research Network (CRN), and lead by Leeds Beckett University (LBU) and Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), we work to directly contribute to the regions obesity practice and policy. We achieve this through facilitating collaborative working in the field of obesity research by:

  • supporting research activities (e.g. grant applications, events, training etc.)
  • hosting events
  • creating and collating research, practice and policy resources
  • promoting relevant opportunities.

The YORA organising committee consists of:

  • Lead: Professor Louisa Ells (LBU)
  • Lead: Dr Catherine Homer (SHU)
  • Lead: Nicola Corrigan (OHID)
  • Coordinator: Dr James Nobles (LBU)
  • Coordinator: Karina Kinsella (LBU)
  • Coordinator: Stephanie Beecroft (SHU)
  • Theme lead: Kristen Bash (UoS)
  • Student Representative: Kaydee Shepherd (LBU)
