About

The ‘Ethics of Research with Children and Young People’ research cluster was created as a result of academics, students and practitioners from across the university coming together to discuss the ethical dilemmas of conducting research with children and young people (CYP) during a seminar series that ran in 2019/20 and 2020/21. The list of challenges we discussed grew and people enthusiastically shared such a wide range of experiences that it became clear that this is a research cluster that will be of great benefit to people at all stages of research- planning, writing ethics forms and also to offer support to people conducting research in the present.

There are a number of activities related to this research cluster:

  • The seminar series: Navigating the Ethical Dilemmas of Research with Children and Young People is a space where people from different disciplines can learn about the fundamental principles of conducting research with CYP
  • Quarterly events are held where researchers share their experiences of ethical dilemmas in work shops and seminars
  • Monthly drop-ins are held on Zoom where people can bring their particular ethical conundrums for consideration and discussion with others who share an interest
  • In addition, this Word Press site has a resources section which is a repository of key texts that address the challenges of ethical research with children and young people
