It is a forum:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>for practitioners to share their research and activities with other practitioners and Sheffield Institute of Education researchers and make links for future climate change and sustainability research.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>for researchers from Sheffield Institute of Education and from our partner school and settings and organisations to share their research findings, projects and engage in developing collaborative approaches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to support capacity building for developing climate change, sustainability and biodiversity education and research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Activities include<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monthly eBulletin updating on local and national projects and funding opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Termly #EcoTeachMeets &#8211; bringing together practitioners and organisations to share good practice, latest research and activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Termly newsletter with more in detail information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular blog entries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Showcasing events taking place in and around Sheffield and South Yorkshire (for practitioners and students)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The network is coordinated by Lee Jowett, Research Fellow in Climate Change and Sustainability Education at Sheffield Hallam University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"167\" src=\"https:\/\/research.shu.ac.uk\/sustainability\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2026\/08\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1012\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.018059324412838;width:202px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lee Jowett <\/strong>MA MSc PGCE CSciTeach<br><strong>Climate Change and Sustainability Fellow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am Research Fellow in the Sheffield Institute of Education at Sheffield Hallam University. I am a Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach) with the Association for Science Education and chair a Multi-Academy Trust, reflecting a commitment to educational leadership that runs alongside my research work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a first degree in Zoology and teacher training (PGCE), I spent ten years as a secondary science teacher in Sheffield before leading a local authority climate education team for nine years, working directly with over 130 schools across Leicester City and Leicestershire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My research is grounded in the Research-Informed Climate Education (RICE) framework, which I developed building on the Science Capital approach. This framework identifies the key elements of effective climate education and translates conceptual ideas into applied research, professional learning programmes, and school-based practice. My doctoral research, which began in January 2026, explores how climate adaptation strategies influence teaching, learning and wellbeing in school contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I established and lead the Climate Change, Sustainability and Biodiversity Education South Yorkshire Network, a forum created in 2023 to support practitioners across Sheffield and South Yorkshire in developing quality climate and sustainability education from early years through to higher education. I also convene the bi-annual Climate Leaders Conference, bringing together educators, researchers, school leaders and sector organisations to share evidence and practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I work in partnership with a range of organisations including The Wildlife Trusts, The Royal Society, the National Education Nature Park, Eco-Schools, and Global Action Plan to drive meaningful change in how climate education is delivered across English schools and educational setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are a supportive network that aims to develop, facilitate, and network those interested in climate change, sustainability and biodiversity.
