{"id":299,"date":"2024-02-08T20:16:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-08T20:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.shu.ac.uk\/researchconversations\/?p=299"},"modified":"2024-03-11T12:47:36","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T12:47:36","slug":"underpinning-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.shu.ac.uk\/researchconversations\/introduction\/underpinning-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Underpinning research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <em><a href=\"https:\/\/research.shu.ac.uk\/rmple\/\">Research Mobilities in Primary Literacy Education<\/a><\/em> project investigated how research about literacy moves to, among and around primary teachers in England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-pale-cyan-blue-color has-custom-colour-1-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-f6b0ac8033bf504a1c0bee7e57f09dcf\"><strong>This project highlighted that:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teachers can feel empowered or restricted by research \u2013 sometimes encounters with research open out professional thinking and dialogue and sometimes they close it down through generating scripts for teacher to follow<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research shapes teachers\u2019 lives when it informs national\/school\/trust policy or underpins resources, schemes or training<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teachers\u2019 direct engagement with research is limited due to various factors that include time and school\/national\/trust policy<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is an overwhelming array of resources available online which are badged as \u2018research\u2019, \u2018research informed\u2019 or \u2018evidence-based\u2019<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research findings often appear in abbreviated forms \u2013 e.g. an infograph or bullet points \u2013 or are synthesised into<a href=\"https:\/\/research.shu.ac.uk\/researchconversations\/engaging\/engaging-with-research-glossary\/\"> a research review synthesis<\/a> or guidance report.
