Pioneering spirit
Researchers from SHU lab4living had the opportunity to showcase their work at the recent Pioneers event at Olympia. The event, organised by the engineering and physical sciences research council brought together academics, researchers, policy makers and businesses from across the UK to share cutting edge research and innovative practice.
Lab4Living was invited to showcase both its Future Bathrooms and SMART2 projects in an interactive display that attracted widespread interest from the research and business communities.
Future bathrooms, which focuses on making the bathroom a more comfortable and safe place for older people, was praised for its innovative research methodology and its focus on the training of older people as community researchers.
The philosophy of designing with people is at the heart of the project and is reflected in other elements of its portfolio of work.
This was yet another endorsement of the exciting development that are taking place in research at the university within lab4living, a collaboration between CHSCR and the Art and Design Research Centre in ACES, which brings together research expertise across the fields of health, design, engineering and computer science.
