Following on from the success of the initial 24hr Inclusive Design Challenge at\u00a0Design4Health2013<\/a>, we are very pleased to announce a second Challenge spanning the first two days of this year\u2019s conference.<\/p>\n

The 24hr Inclusive Design Challenge format was developed by Professor Julia Cassim of the Kyoto Design Lab, Kyoto Institute of Technology and Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, Royal College of Art (RCA). She is co-facilitating this event with\u00a0the Art and Design Research Centre here at Sheffield Hallam University.<\/p>\n

Open Call for Designers and Design Partners<\/h2>\n

The theme this year is Parkinson\u2019s Disease<\/strong>, a progressive neurological condition that affects around 10 million people worldwide (approximately 127,000 in the UK). The impacts of living (and caring for someone) with Parkinson\u2019s\u00a0Disease are complex and deeply personal – as such, we are recruiting design partners who live (or care for someone) with Parkinson\u2019s as well as Parkinson\u2019s specialist clinicians to work with the design teams. Each multi-disciplinary design teamwill be led by an experienced senior designer. We are also looking for product, communication and interaction and design engineers who relish the opportunity to think on their feet, meet a deadline and work creatively as a team to a common end. Why take Part?<\/h2>\n

This is an opportunity for designers and design engineers to gain invaluable new skills and insight into a multi-disciplinary, user-centred design processand the complex, invaluable \u00a0and increasingly key area of designing in a healthcare context. Participating in this challenge means something for your CV and a chance to learn\u00a0about innovating in the medical sector (not to mention, having fun designing with others!).<\/p>\n

For the design partners, it is a chance to bring your hard-earned expertise to the design process at the point when it can make a difference and to learn how you can influence it in the future.<\/p>\n

What we can offer<\/h2>\n

We will provide accommodation for Challenge participants on the night of the 13th July (the first half of the 24Hr challenge) and the event will be catered throughout. However we are unable to provide\u00a0transport to the event.<\/p>\n

Challenge Timeline<\/h2>\n

The event begins on Monday with a briefing on the Challenge process and the context. Participants will be assigned teams in advance and the design work begins for an unbroken 24 hours as Design4Health2015 begins. At the end of this period of time,\u00a0the teams are invited to submit their work in the form of a six minute presentation of the visualized design concepts and\/or prototypes. These are then presented to the other teams, conference delegates and the judging panel.\u00a0The concepts are judged by a panel of experts drawn from the clinical, design and carer sectors and a 24hr Inclusive Design Challenge People\u2019s Choice Award, voted for by conference delegates.<\/p>\n
