Professor Marcos
Rodrigues

Marcos has published over 150 research articles in international journals, conference proceedings and book chapters on the subjects of geometric modelling, computer vision, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition. He has developed and been awarded 4 patents on original technologies for fast 3D scanning using structured light both in the visible and near-infrared spectra. Concerning security applications, he has successfully applied the 3D technologies to 3D facial recognition and licensed the technologies to companies in Europe and in the US. He has recently been awarded a European grant with 7 partners across Europe for real time tracking of people in unconstrained environments and estimation of their age profile and gender. He is working on new initiatives such as the detection of volatile organic compounds as unique form of biometric identification and has a strong interest in pattern recognition research for security applications.
