Matthias is an Associate Research Fellow at CENTRIC and the Centre for Research on Antisemitism (ZfA) at Technical University in Berlin.
His research lies within the disciplines of linguistics, discourse analysis, research on prejudice, and internet studies. He focuses primarily on the construction of implicit hate speech in mainstream society.
In his current postdoc project, he examines various forms of antisemitic and racist hate speech in British mainstream media in the context of Brexit. The analysis follows a pragma-linguistic, context-sensitive understanding of language use and is based on a mixed methods approach, using qualitative, machine learning as well as quantitative techniques.
