Who is funding this project and what is it about?
The Department for Education (DfE) and the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) have commissioned independent researchers at Sheffield Institute of Education (SIOE) at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) and the Education Research Centre, University of Brighton (UoB) to carry out research to understand:
The evidence from both strands will be used to help improve support for schools considering recruiting abroad.
Why have I been selected?
You have been selected to take part in this research as a teacher who trained abroad and has applied for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the last two years, so are on DfE's Database of Qualified Teachers (DQT).
As part of the registration process for QTS on the Teacher Self Service website, you were advised that DfE may use your details to contact you for research purposes. DfE have authorised us to contact you for this research.
We are interested in the views and experiences of international teachers, whether they are currently employed in England or abroad, teaching, or doing other things.
What will it involve and how long will it take?
The survey of international teachers should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. You can do this using a mobile device, if you find this more convenient.
What will I be asked about?
The survey covers the following topics:
Do I have to take part?
Participation in the survey is voluntary. By submitting the survey you are consenting to taking part and having your data included in the anonymised analysis.
How will my information be used?
We adhere to the Data Protection Act and follow SHU's ethics protocols. All the information you provide will be treated in strictest confidence. Anonymised data will be analysed and presented so that you will not be identifiable in any reports or publications resulting from this research.
When will this part of the evaluation be published?
The final report and best practice guidance will be sent to NCTL/DfE in March 2017 to inform decisions about the future development and delivery of international recruitment programme. NCTL/DfE will then publish the report and guidance on Gov.UK. Other academic and practitioner outputs may also be published at a later date.
Where do I get further information about taking part?
If you have any further questions about the research, please email internationalteachers@shu.ac.uk or contact the SHU Project Manager, Ben Willis at b.willis@shu.ac.uk / 0114 225 6059.
Many thanks
