Design of surgical apparatus – Industrial Design MA and PhD; Saiful Hasley

Saiful profile 02

Saiful started his research with an Industrial Design MA, supervised by Paul Chamberlain looking at design considerations of the Self Retaining Anal Speculum. This MA work is shown below as a project update.

He has since moved on to a PhD. His Director of studies for his PhD is Prof Chris Rust and his project is called ‘How participatory design with surgeons will enhance the effectiveness of surgery tools’

Saiful is broadly interested in the area of design of surgical apparatus and medical equipment. Design of medical equipment is largely technologically driven. Saiful is interested in introducing usability  into the design of such equipment to support the attention to the functional design. To move towards product usability, participation from users and multidisciplinary expertise is crucial.
