Presenting at Sheffield MCA Expo

Joe, Dan and Rebecca ran a workshop at the Sheffield Microsystems Coaching Academy Expo demonstrating how some of the creative practices from participatory design might compliment and augment the Microsystems service improvement approach. Their workshop was filled to capacity with 45 delegates from the Expo and included the Godfather of the Microsystems approach; Paul Batalden.
The workshop ran through some very practical exercises that could easily be applied by people working in interdisciplinary service improvement teams, to enable greater creative potential and to enable ways of refining and advancing ideas before running small tests of change. The two key points that these exercises focused on where:
  1. generation of novel ideas
  2. physical prototyping (not PDSA cycles – we classify PDSA cycles as small experiments)
Examples from real projects that we have run were used to illustrate the impact and benefit of applying these exercises and ways of working. The feedback was very positive. The slides from the workshop will soon be available for download .
