Health Hackathon

Bin@Sheffield 2014 Health Hackathon

Following the success of the Design 4 Health 24Hr Design Workshop, a Health-themed Hackathon is taking place on the 10th and 11th of November as part of the BIN@Sheffield 2014 event. The Health Hackathon is co-facilitated by Prof. Julia Cassim of the Kyoto Design Lab and Sebastian Conran- the University of Sheffield’s designer in residence & founder of SCA.

Assistive Technology is the main focus of the Hackathon, with six teams participating across digital and tangible briefs. The three teams working towards a tangible outcome will focus on a Hoist, a Rollator and a drinking aid for those living with impaired physical ability (such as those living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND)). The three teams with a focus on digital outcomes will be using the Myo Armband from Thalmic Labs, to imagine new opportunities for Assistive Technology, using the state-of-the-art technology underpinning the gesture-recognition capabilities of the Myo Armband.

The teams are comprised of designers, coders, engineers, patient representatives, and patients.
