As part of my role supporting events and publications in the Art & Design Research Centre (ADRC), my involvement with Lab4Living first came through organising the Design4Health conferences. Since the first conference in 2011, I have worked closely with the Lab4Living team to organise this biannual peer reviewed international conference.

The Design4Health conference has become a key date in the calendar for creative practitioners, health professionals and researchers working in health and wellbeing contexts across the world. Design4Health2015 was the biggest to date and ran over four days with a 24Hr Inclusive Design Challenge, Posters, a peer reviewed exhibition, workshops and social activities running alongside the main conference programme.

It was through running the conferences and exploring ways of bringing this emerging design and health community together that the organising team began to consider other publishing opportunities and the idea of a new journal was born. Already having editorship of the Design Journal within the ADRC and an established relationship with academic publisher Taylor & Francis meant that we were ideally placed to set up a new publication. We were able to put together an editorial team made up of three editors (Lab4Living directors Claire Craig and Paul Chamberlain, and Design Journal editor Prof Paul Atkinson) with me as assistant editor and looking after the day to day running of the journal.

Design for Health was launched in 2017 and is an international refereed journal covering all aspects of design in the context of health and wellbeing. The Journal is published twice a year and provides a forum for design and health scholars, design professionals, healthcare practitioners, educators and managers worldwide.

More recently, I have become involved in the dissemination and publication of Lab4Living’s research activities, and was part of the team organising Lab4Living’s 10th anniversary celebrations through a booklet and exhibition at Sheffield Institute of Arts.
