Research Study Manager:
Dr. Emma Scott
Emma is the Study Manager on the Booster Research project, which aims to promote and maintain physical activity in sedentary middle-aged adults. Emma's previous research includes the role of diet and exercise in prevention of breast cancer recurrence and the role of physical activity in various other medical conditions, such as diabetes and obesity. She has a range of experience designing and delivering behaviour change interventions in both clinical and community settings.

Research Assistants:
Dr. Andrew Hutchison
Andrew has recently completed a PhD at Sheffield Hallam University. His research focused on developing a theoretical understanding of long-term physical activity behaviour change. Alongside his interests in health related behaviour change, Andrew has developed considerable expertise in qualitative research methods and the application of computer assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS). In August 2009, Andrew started working as a research assistant for the exercise and health sciences research group. Currently he is working on the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) funded 'booster' project. Alongside this, Andrew is involved in the teaching of a number of undergraduate sport and exercise psychology modules within the sport and exercise science department.
Liam Humphreys
Liam's main interests are physical activity, health and behaviour change. He currently works as a research assistant on Booster and a second project investigating the effect of exercise upon health related quality of life and immune function in persons diagnosed with mild to moderate multiple sclerosis (MS). Liam also has an interest in workplace health and is a member of the SHU Wellness Team. Liam has an MSc in Physical Activity for Health and a BSc (Hons) in Health Related Exercise and Fitness. He has over five years experience as a fitness instructor. Liam's personal interests include water polo where he competes in the National League Division 2 for City of Sheffield WPC, football, cycling and surfing.
Kim Horspool
Kim's main areas of interest relate to physical activity, health and behaviour change. She currently works as a research assistant on Booster and is a member of the SHU Wellness Team. Kim is also studying for an MSc in Physical Activity for Health and completed her BSc (Hons) Exercise Science from Sheffield Hallam University in 2009, where her interest in the 'booster' intervention began during her final year dissertation. Throughout university, she has acquired experience in exercise referral and physical activity fields through voluntary work with Sheffield Coronary Society, Sheffield Hallam Volunteering and the Ramblers' Association. For her own personal enjoyment and health she jogs and uses the gym, as well as participating in team sports such as netball and basketball whenever possible.
Pete Swaile
Pete's main areas of expertise are sports nutrition, physical activity and strength and conditioning. He has an MSc Sport and Exercise Nutrition and a BSc in Sports Science .As well as being part of the Booster team, he is a REPs Level 3 accredited Personal Trainer and TPI Golf Fitness Coach. Pete has several years experience in the health and fitness industry, delivering health and well-being solutions to a broad range of clients in the public and private sector. Experience to date includes delivering sports science modules to the Professional Golfers Association (PGA), freelance writing for FitPro magazine and provision of nutrition workshops for local councils across the Midlands region. Pete has also worked with both novice and elite performers delivering dietary analysis and strength and conditioning training.
Rebecca Wood
Rebecca is currently involved in delivery of Booster, the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and the Zenjin golf performance programme, in addition to group workshops with various sports such as the Great Britain women's volleyball team and jockeys at the Northern Racing College. Alongside consulting in sport, she is involved in performance training for business, the management and delivery of SHU Wellness sessions and short courses.. Her interests also include the psychological aspects of performance in golf, and the translation of sport psychology techniques in the business environment. Rebecca has so far accumulated eight years of experience competing in golf at an elite amateur level both at home and in the USA.
Sue Kesterton
Sue's interests focus on the roles of physical activity, nutrition and smoking cessation on improving health. In addition to working on Booster, she has a particular interest in workplace health and works as part of the multidisciplinary SHU Wellness Team - a health MOT and lifestyle consultation service available for staff, family, friends, external clients and companies. Sue studied physical activity and health at undergraduate level at Oxford Brookes University and postgraduate level at Sheffield Hallam University. She is an experienced REPs Level 3 accredited health and fitness instructor and has expertise in exercise programme development and delivery for various medical conditions including exercise referral consultant and Phase IV cardiac rehabilitation. For her own personal fitness she enjoys cycling to work, fitness classes, running and surfing on a recreational basis.
